·        Civil Rights Act (4 or 5 questions on this)

·        The Bakke case and Affirmative Action

·        The Party systems.  Who were main parties in each system

·        The Lochner Supreme Court Case

·        Re-alignments in general, and know some examples

·        William Jennings Bryan and his impact on re-alignment and the Democratic Party

·        FDR’s re-alignment and the New Deal Coalition and what the New Deal did.  (4 or 5 questions)

·        Reagan’s conservative re-alignment and what it did

·        CURRENT EVENTS:  Know Obama’s key security and economic Cabinet Appointments

Contrary to previous plans, I need you all to attend on Wed (tmrw).  This needs to happen for the following reason:

1.  I need to do my course evaluations
2.  I have an announcement about my Spring class
3.  I have info about how to actually turn in the term paper. 
4.  I will take roll and give everyone in attendance one bonus point on their final grade.
5.  You can all bring me my birthday gifts

New Plan, POT 2002

This George Romero like illness is slowly devouring me, so, well I improvised. 

Here is plan:

1.  There is no class today (Friday 21).

2.  Unless I am dead, there WILL be class on Monday the 24th. 

3.  Can people please send me their outlines via email?  (You can just copy and paste, or you can attach.)  Can you make subject: POT OUTLINE

4.  There will be no other reading except finishing Arendt.

5.  I will email you comments back regarding your outline by Sunday night. 

6.  If needed, or if democracy mandates, we might move paper due date.

I give my word, my illness will not effect you negatively at all, unless you just miss my wonderful company.

Oh, and I *am* teaching Problems of Democracy next semester.

SFCC Fall B (Tues and Thurs) Class: There IS Class on the 13th

Despite what the syllabus implies; there IS class on Thursday the 13th of November.  Of course, we do have off Veterans' Day, which is the 11th.  BUT, we will be covering The Executive/Presidency on the 13th of November, chapters 12 and 13.  Be prepared for a "pop" quiz.  See you Thursday.

New Poli Sci class on sustainability and environmentalism

This spring semester, Les Thiele is teaching POS 4931:  "Sustainability in Action."

It will meet Tuesday 8-9 (3:00-4:55) and Thursday 9 (4:05-4:55).  Apart from class meetings, students will focusing on integrated projects on sustainability issues that will have them doing primary research on campus or in the community.

If they want to be in the course, they need to meet with Les Thiele and be approved, because the course is departmentally controlled and they cannot register themselves.

So if some of you who want to work next semester on some exciting sustainability projects, have them set up appointments for a meeting, then meet with Les.  His office hours are Thurs 10-2, and Fri. 10-12.
